Shah Rukh Khan has indeed set his rule at the box office in 2023 with three films – Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. The superstar delivered two all-time grosses in a year for the first time in history. This has cemented him as the undisputed king of Bollywood. Well, the success spree is not just limited to the box office. It has now been reported that the superstar has also created a phenomenon by drawing a whooping 8 crore footfalls to theatres throughout the year, with Jawan contributing 3.93 crore, Pathaan 3.20 crore, and Dunki over 1 crore so far. With this, SRK has become the first ever Hindi film actor to achieve this.
Not only did SRK deliver two all-time grosses in 2023 – Pathaan and Jawan – but also achieved the unthinkable with a third hit, Dunki, making him the first superstar ever to have all three releases cross the coveted Rs 500 crore in the domestic market and Rs 1,000 crore worldwide mark in a single year.
Pathaan was released in January 2023. The film marked Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback to the big screen after four years and impressed everyone. It also starred Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in key roles. On the other hand, Jawan was released in September 2023. It also featured Deepika Padukone, Nayanthara, Ridhi Dogra and Vijay Sethupathi among others. It became the highest-grossing Hindi film ever with a whopping Rs 643 Cr. nett collection in India across all languages.
After the two mega releases, Shah Rukh Khan returned to theatres in December 2023 with Dunki – his first with the director Rajkumar Hirani. The film also starred Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu in key roles. The plot of the film followed the exciting journey of those who choose an unconventional route known as the Donkey Flight, showing the difficulties they face on their way.
Just a few days back, Shah Rukh Khan also held an #AskSRK session with his fans on X when a fan asked what part of 2023 was best. To this, the actor replied: “Not parts the whole 2023 was best!!”
