Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are working toward sorting out their messy divorce battle. The legal reps of the estranged couple stated they’ll start a four-day mediation to work through the custody of their children in a court hearing on Tuesday, as per the New York Post. The mediation begins on Wednesday, October 4 that’ll reportedly allow the two to resolve issues in their legal separation. In addition to this, the move is also likely to help Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner come up with a parenting plan for their daughters, 3-year-old Willa and 14-month-old Delphine. During the hearing, the date of their divorce trial was set for January 2.
Joe Jonas’ legal rep informed the court on Tuesday that he is looking to get joint custody of the kids. “What he was looking for is a 50-50,” the rep claimed, adding how both parents are seeing their children and Joe wants to continue to do that. The mediation comes just days after the estranged pair arrived at a temporary agreement to keep their daughters in New York City, suggests assessed court documents. The interim consent order claims the pair is not allowed to move their kids out of the States until the custody issues are resolved.
Sophie Turner sued Joe Jonas for wrongful retention of their children just weeks after her estranged husband filed for divorce. The Game of Thrones actress alleged Joe was wrongfully withholding their kids’ passports to stop them from returning to England. The complaint reportedly called for the “immediate return” of her daughters suggesting the “wrongful retention” started on September 20.
Responding to her complaint, Joe Jonas released an official statement denying any truth to Sophie’s claims. He suggested being under the impression that the pair had reached an agreement to work toward a co-parenting plan. The musician asserted the divorce proceedings were initiated in Florida after multiple conversations with Sophie. He also added that the Florida court had already restricted the parents from relocating their children about two weeks ago Sophie filed the complaint to sue him.
The divorce was put in motion after the estranged couple’s cordial meeting in New York. But it was less than 24 hours after the discussions about amicable co-parenting setup that Sophie demanded Joe to hand over their daughters’ passports. She wanted to take them out of the country immediately.
Joe Jonas filed for divorce on September 5 after remaining married to Sophie Turner for four years.
