For the special occasion of National Cinema Day on Friday, October 13, ticket prices across many theatres were reduced to Rs. 99. This came as a great impetus to films which had begun to witness a dry run at the theatres. After a successful five-week run in cinemas, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan also appeared to be fading. However, due to this scheme, the film saw a massive surge in footfall.
According to the market tracker Sacnilk, Jawan had been earning between Rs 70 lakh and Rs 80 lakh per day for the past week. However, when the ticket prices were lowered to Rs. 99, the film earned Rs. 5 crore on Friday. Due to this surge, the film’s domestic nett collection rose to Rs. 632 crore. The global box office collection now stands at Rs. 1125 crore.
Last week, makers Red Chillies Entertainment announced that the film had earned Rs. 1103.27 crore gross at the global box office. A press release shared by the makers stated that Jawan had become the “first Hindi film in the history of Indian cinema to cross Rs. 1100 crore at the global box office”. The release also read, “In this, the India gross box office collection stands at Rs. 733.37 crore and the overseas box office collection is Rs. 369.90 crore.”
The statement read that the film had earned Rs. 560.03 crore in the Hindi belt till that week. “The collection from other language dubs is Rs. 59.89 crore. In total, the film has collected Rs. 619.92 crore in India, breaching Rs. 600 crore and is still growing at a good pace,” the statement further mentioned.
However, the film has yet to break the record of Aamir Khan’s Dangal. The film earned more than Rs. 2000 crore at the global box office, with a major share of its earnings coming from China.
Meanwhile, recently released films like Fukrey 3 and Mission Raniganj also saw a high footfall on Friday. Fukrey 3 earned Rs. 5.25 crore. The film featured Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi and Pulkit Samrat in key roles. Akshay Kumar’s Mission Raniganj also minted Rs. 5 crore on Friday.
