Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s latest cinematic collaboration Laapataa Ladies was loved by all genres. The film saw its theatrical release on March 1, 2024, and now it was released on the OTT platform on April 26. Celebrities have praised Kiran Rao’s directorial. The latest to join is Sunny Deol. He took to his social media and showered love on the comedy-drama.
Taking to his Instagram stories, he wrote, “Just finished watching #LaapataLadies, haven’t seen such a heartwarming and innocent film in long. All my best to @raodyness and team, will recommend all to watch this gem (happy emoji)” He also translated his review into Hindi.” Hansal Mehta has also shared his thoughts and opinions on the touching comedy-drama. The renowned filmmaker, after watching the film, took to his social media handle and dropped a post. In his post on X (Formerly Twitter), Mehta lauded Laapataa Ladies and called for its ‘big heart’. He wrote, “Saw the very big hearted and moving Laapata Ladies. Sometimes all that is needed is simplicity and clarity. This film is that.”

The movie is adapted from Biplab Goswami’s award-winning novel. Kiran Rao’s directorial features Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan in the lead roles. The movie takes viewers back to rural India in 2001. Its narrative revolves around two brides who get exchanged during a train journey. The journey filled with twists and turns begins as their husbands start searching for the real bride.
Made under the banners of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, the film marked the directorial comeback of Kiran Rao after Dhobi Ghat. Before its theatrical release, the film was screened at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023. It received a standing ovation from the audience present at the festival.
Meanwhile, Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol are all set to come together after 27 years in ‘Lahore 1947’, which will be produced by Aamir Khan. The actor-director duo has worked together in massive hits like Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993) and Ghatak: Lethal (1996).
Rajkumar Santoshi shared his sentiments about the pairing of Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta and said, “After a long time, Preity Zinta is again playing a very important role for the silver screen with Lahore 1947. She is indeed an extremely talented, finest, and most natural actress in our industry. Whichever character she plays she totally invests herself in it and makes the audience feel that she is made for that character. Interestingly, the audience will see her again with Sunny Deol. This on-screen pair has always been immensely loved by the audience. Above all, this film’s script demands a pair that is as accurate as Sunny and Preity.”
