It seems like the Pretty Little Liars reboot has met its end, leaving fans who were hoping for more twists and turns a bit disappointed. Max has reportedly decided to pull the plug on the show after just two seasons. This reboot took a fresh, horror-filled spin on the original 2010s mystery drama that had viewers hooked back in the day and many were eager to see how it would continue. But sadly, the latest generation of ‘Liars’ won’t be coming back to the screen anytime soon.
The cancellation comes about three months after the second season, subtitled Summer School, wrapped up its final episode in June. Even though fans were left on the edge of their seats, Max has decided not to move forward with a third season.
In a statement, the streaming platform said, “While Max will not be moving forward with a third season of Pretty Little Liars, we are so grateful to our co-creators, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, as well as the team at Warner Bros. Television, for reintroducing fans to this new iteration of liars who band together to fight the latest creepy villain terrifying Millwood. Their unique and modern creative vision — combined with the immense talent of our cast and crew — gave the series a fun, horror-filled point of view that paid tribute to its original Rosewood roots,” informs The Hollywood Reporter.
The second season ended with a mysterious image that hinted at more drama to come. A group of girls wearing masks that looked like the five original Liars were seen walking down a school hallway. However, with the show being canceled, this eerie moment will remain unresolved, leaving fans to wonder what might have been.
The reboot, which was initially titled Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, was given a straight-to-series order back in September 2020. It premiered its first season on July 28, 2022 and quickly gained enough traction to secure a second season renewal.
Season two featured a star-studded cast including Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, Maia Reficco, Mallory Bechtel, Sharon Leal, Alex Aiono, Jordan Gonzalez and Elias Kacavas.
