General Elections 2019 is knocking on our doors and Bollywood is all set to take the political drama forward with a number of biopics lined up. While The Accidental Primes Minister and Thackeray, based on lives of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, respectively, are ready to release, a film on the life of PM Narendra Modi was announced recently.
The role of PM Modi will be essayed by Vivek Oberoi. As soon as the first look of the film was shared on social media, Twitter users reacted to the poster in a much hilarious way. While some said, the man in the poster neither resembles Modi nor the actor, some doubted if its a spoof.
Life is unfair Dr Manmohan Singh got someone of the calibre of Anupam Kher. Poor Modi ji has to settle for Vivek Oberoi. Salman Khan hota toh kya maza aata.— Omar Abdullah (@OmarAbdullah) January 8, 2019
If Vivek Oberoi will be Modi ...Aishwaya Rai can be Achhe Din...@BeingSalmanKhan Demonetisation!! #ModiBiopic— Chulbul Pandey (@UngliKhor) January 6, 2019

This would be the first time when the person on whom the movie is based is a better "actor" than the actor playing him in that movie #ModiBiopic #OnALighterNote— Jasdeep Singh (@jasdeep386) January 6, 2019
When elections are near either make a biopic of opposition leader to defame his image #TheAccidentalPrimeMinisterOr make a biopic of ur own leader to exalt his political image #imagecorrection #ModiBiopic— Bilal hanief (@bilal_hanief) January 5, 2019

So this year we can call #PMNarendraModi anything we want so long as we italicise his name. #PSA #SilverLining pic.twitter.com/Ar7BD7rj0K— Raja Sen (@RajaSen) January 7, 2019
Vivek Oberoi to play #PMNarendraModi in his biopicThis is the same guy who compared his character in Krrish 3 with The Legendary JOKERI would rather waste 2 hours watching Arnab Goswami screaming on TV (on MUTE) instead of paying & watching Vivek Oberoi's mockery pic.twitter.com/BDVyUppoUj— Freaky ~ DRaval (@HODL_till_2140) January 7, 2019
Vivek Oberoi is all set to play Narendra Modi in his upcoming film. And still haters will say that Modiji is not providing jobs to unemployed.— Supariman™ (@SupariMan_) January 4, 2019
The biopic will be directed by Omung Kumar, who has earlier directed biopics like Sarbjit and Mary Kom. Slated to go on floors later this month, PM Narendra Modi has been in the works for three years.
The film poster was unveiled by Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at South Mumbai’s Garware Club House. The film is being produced by Vivek Oberoi’s father Suresh Oberoi and Sandip Ssingh.
“Sandip Ssingh and Vivek came up with the idea of roping in the CM for the unveiling. When the makers approached him, he readily agreed," a source from the production earlier said.
"The team acquired the necessary permissions to go forth with the film only a few weeks ago. Vivek has been working on his distinct looks and will be part of extensive workshops. A big chunk of the film will be shot in Gujarat, apart from other states”, the source added.
With the makers yet to announce PM Narendra Modi’s release date, it will be interesting to see if they will be able to shape public opinion and release it in time with the general elections this year.
