Politicians’ sons are trying to become heroes literally, on the silver screen in Karnataka.

Bengaluru: Politicians’ sons are trying to become heroes literally, on the silver screen in Karnataka. At least three big politicos’ kids are training hard in dancing and stunts, getting set for debuting next year, while the fourth neta son has his sights set on Bollywood as well.

Nikhil Kumar/Nikhil Gowda, son of former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda dream of a big silver screen debut. Nikhil, who has been training in both acting and dancing, besides working out for over ten years now, has begun shooting for a film titled ‘Jaguar’. The body-building and training for stunt sequences will show results, he hopes, though he wants to keep the film’s theme under wraps for now.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, he said, “It is definitely a commercial aspect with a social message. Can’t reveal more as it may compromise commercial aspects of my movie."

And he doesn’t want to make this his stepping-stone to a later career in politics. Dad and son say, their family has had enough of politics.

Elaborating on this, Nikhil said, “Definitely not, if that was the case, I would rather concentrate on my political career because if I take up film career, my political career will go for a toss. This is because we need to be with people 24/7."

Defending his son’s decision, HD Kumaraswamy said, “It is enough for me because in our family, my father, my brother and I have worked very hard, spending most of our time in politics. Politics is. I think a lot of variations are there. Then some kind of unnecessary comments will be there if entire family members enter politics"

Another neta-son is Anup, son of powerful Congress MLC H M Revanna. Anup’s film Lakshmana’s shooting is almost complete. He too has his sights set on filmdom for the long haul, and steers clear of politics.

Talking about his film dreams Anup Revanna said, “I have waited for a long time to be an actor. I would not take chances like this. Politics is something different. For me, it is just about acting for now. I like to do different characters, like Dhanush. I like the way he chooses his characters and his movies."

An excited father H M Revanna said, “That’s why he has gone for Kung Fu training and dance and acting training. He went to China to train in Kung Fu. He was interested in this. A person interested in which field, father is bound to do that. I wanted him to be a technocrat, an engineer."

JDS MLAs Chaluvarayaswamy and Zameer Ahmed Khan are the other politicos whose kids are looking at reel life. Zameer’s son, in fact, is waiting for an opportunity in Bollywood, while the former’s son’s Kannada debut shooting began three months back.

Karnataka politics watchers feel that perhaps it is an attempt to stop criticism about dynastic politics. But these films too, ironically enough, are being produced by the papas and mamas of these budding actors who are looking at grand launches for their sons. The new year 2016 will see a slew of debuts that will decide which neta-son has made his mark and which has not.
