Mumbai: Versatile actor Vinay Pathak, who will now be seen in a critically acclaimed film Island City, says that most small films struggle to get released in theatres.
"Most small films struggle to get released and when they get released, they don't get viewing. In our country we make good cinema and then we struggle to release it because the majority of the masses and their theatre literacy lies with mainstream cinema,” Vinay told IANS.
“I don't think there are too many small films which didn't even see the light of the day but they got critical acclaim," he added.
Island City marks the directorial debut of Ruchika Oberoi and it had its world premiere at the 72nd Venice Film Festival 2015.
Vinay gives all the credit to Oberoi for making this film.
He said: "It's a wonderful film to begin with. It's a film Ruchika (Oberoi) has written herself and the script made the heads turn many years ago...”
"All credit goes to the director for putting things together and making this film," he added.
Island City also features Tannishtha Chatterjee, Amruta Subhash and Chandan Roy Sanyal and is set for September 2 release.
