Jeremy Renner, the multifaceted artist, has played various roles over the years in the entertainment industry, spanning from acting to music and even hosting reality TV shows. However, it’s his portrayal of Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, that has garnered immense recognition since his debut in 2011’s Thor. Renner’s portrayal of the skilled marksman has resonated with millions of fans, but since the culmination of the Hawkeye Disney+ series in 2021, and his unfortunate snowplough mishap in January 2023, his fans and Marvel enthusiasts have been curious about the character’s future trajectory.
Renner recently engaged in a conversation with ComicBook.com while discussing his involvement in Silk’s inaugural Super Bowl commercial. During the conversation, he talked about his aspirations for Hawkeye’s next appearance, particularly following his year-long recovery journey post-accident. The incident in question, occurring in January 2023, saw Renner facing a near-fatal encounter with his 14,300-pound snowcat, resulting in severe injuries including multiple broken ribs, a fractured tibia, ankle, clavicle, and shoulder, among others.
When prompted about his desires for the character’s evolution, Renner humorously talked about the need for flexibility, both figuratively and literally, pointing out his commitment to the role and his readiness to delve deeper into Hawkeye’s narrative if called upon by the MCU’s creative team. Renner said, “Flexibility. I’m stretching as we talk about this. Like, no joke. Yeah. I don’t know. I leave the storytelling and the narrative to the writers and all that. But I do love the character, and if they called and asked for me to do it, I’ll be prepared. Feige, I’m stretching right now, my guy!”
Meanwhile, Renner’s recent appearance in Silk’s Feel Planty Good Super Bowl commercial showcased a heartwarming collaboration with his real-life daughter, Ava. Reflecting on the experience, Renner expressed profound joy in working with his daughter.
“It’s the craft I’ve been doing for the last 30 years. Not a lot of people get to do something with their child in something they do for work. That was the coolest thing ever. She couldn’t have been more excited, it’s the most important thing. She had one of the best times in her life. She really, really enjoyed it. Almost a year to date is when we shot this thing, on the anniversary of my recovery. We were forced to look back, my daughter and I, to how far we’ve come in the recovery and how good we feel. This is a kind of almost laughable and (joyous) situation to mark this milestone in the recovery. It’s very, very, very lasting,” added Renner.
As speculation continues regarding the possibility of a second season for Hawkeye, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm any plans. However, the anticipation from fans, coupled with Renner and Hailee Steinfeld’s captivating on-screen chemistry as Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, hints towards future collaborations.
Earlier, director Rhys Thomas, while talking to Collider, had expressed happiness for the warm reception of the series and the promising trajectory of Kate Bishop’s character. This further ignites excitement for potential future developments within the MCU.
