There is an unparalleled level of excitement surrounding Deadpool and Wolverine. Since it was originally speculated to be occurring, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman film has managed to generate a hype that no other film could match. The film’s creators, who debuted the first teaser at the Super Bowl 2024, have now made an appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where they have shown a 9-minute-long, never-before-seen clip from the Shawn Levy-directed film. And something more.
Before the release of Deadpool and Wolverine footage at CinemaCon, Marvel treated guests to a funny clip with Deadpool cracking a joke on Avengers: Secret Wars. The video shows Ryan Reynolds’s character saying, “So, I heard Secret Wars is finally gonna introduce…” while he and Wolverine are passing through a tunnel. However, he is interrupted by a ringing phone.
When Wolverine finally had enough, he turned to face the camera, hurling (bleeped) F-bombs in the direction of the crowd and joking that this was a movie theatre and not “your grandma’s nursing home.” Deadpool had to calm Wolverine before he would stop.
The source from Hollywood Reporter claims that the CinemaCon promo is meant to be seen in theatres, but for the time being, the Marvel/Deadpool team is staying quiet.
Deadpool and Avengers: Secret Wars have already crossed paths. There was a brief scene in the original Deadpool & Wolverine trailer when Reynolds’ character is merely lying down in the Void before Wolverine approaches Deadpool. The Marvel Comics Secret Wars comic book event from 2015 is seen right next to him.
According to ComicBook.com, Wade is seen in the 9-minute video giving up his heroic profession. He works as a used car dealer now. After that, we catch up with him at his birthday celebration, where he cautions Blind AI against doing cocaine. Wade gets apprehended by TVA. He awakens in an office beside the character of Matthew MacFadyen. He informs Deadpool that he has been selected for an exclusive task aimed at preserving the sacred timeline.
Deadpool gives Captain America (played by Chris Evans) a salute in the footage. In a video, Chris Hemsworth plays Thor, sobbing over his corpse. Macfadyen assures him, “That happens in the distant future.” Deadpool declares, “I am Marvel Jesus.” The footage concludes with Deadpool receiving a new super suit.
It reportedly has a direct connection to Avengers: Secret Wars, which is currently the biggest forthcoming Marvel film and the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.
The movie Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled to premiere on July 26, 2024.
