International Dance Day 2024: Beyond the Performance - Recognising Dancers' Impact!
Renowned Choreographers Arun N, Chetan urge us to cultivate a culture where dance receives the recognition it deserves, a crucial step forward in our country's artistic journey.

Every leap, every turn, every flick of the wrist tells a story. Dance is an art form that blends athleticism, artistry, and storytelling, demanding immense dedication and sacrifice from those who devote themselves to it. Yet, dancers often find themselves under-appreciated. On World Dance Day, celebrated choreographers Arun N and Chetan urge us to acknowledge the growing appreciation for dance while highlighting the undervalued role dancers often play.

“On World Dance Day, let’s recognize the surge in love for dance, but also how dancers are often overlooked. Whether enhancing a singer’s concert or bringing vibrancy to a family sangeet, dancers are a major value add and not just mere bodies to fill up the stage. Let’s strive to cultivate a culture where dance receives the recognition it deserves, a crucial step forward in our country’s artistic journey.”

The duo, who have been the creative force behind the concert choreography for the legendary Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman, since 2010, adds: “In India, there’s a wealth of untapped potential among dancers by many artists and event organizers. For instance, the team that works on AR Rahman concerts, flawlessly integrates dancers, crafting stunning concert experiences. It’s all about teamwork, and it’s time for others to embrace this approach and take things to the next level.”

Arun N, Chetan are no strangers to the spotlight themselves.

As winners of Nach Baliye Season 3, they’ve choreographed the moves for the popular couple Aamir and Sanjeeda.

Their talents have graced the silver screen as well, with choreography credits for French director Claude Lelouch’s film ‘Un Plus Une,’ starring Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin and Elsa Zylberstein.

They’ve even brought their artistry to the high-energy world of the IPL.

A true testament to their international acclaim, Arun and Chetan led the only Indian crew to perform for the King of Saudi Arabia for an impressive five consecutive years.

Their extensive repertoire also includes choreography for numerous television shows, reality programs, and advertisement films.

LET’S RECOGNIZE THE NEED TO CELEBRATE DANCERS

  1. Dance requires incredible physical strength, stamina, and flexibility. The leaps, lifts, and intricate footwork push dancers to their limits, demanding the same level of training and conditioning as any athlete.
  2. Dance is a powerful language, conveying emotions and narratives through movement. Dancers are storytellers, using their bodies as instruments to connect with audiences on a deep level. Their creativity and artistry deserve to be acknowledged.
  3. The hours spent in rehearsal rooms are countless. Dancers hone their craft tirelessly, pushing themselves to new levels of skill and expression. This unwavering commitment deserves recognition.
  4. Dancers act as role models, inspiring others to embrace movement, storytelling, and artistic expression. Recognizing their achievements paves the way for future generations.
