Netflix Announces No Sequels For These Hit K-Dramas
Some well-received Japanese and Korean web series, initially praised for their first seasons, will not be renewed by the streaming giant despite their acclaim.

Netflix’s recent decision not to proceed with second seasons for certain beloved Korean and Japanese dramas has left fans with mixed emotions. While eagerly anticipated returns are confirmed for hits like Sweet Home and All of Us Are Dead, some series featuring acclaimed actors, including Ahn Hyo Seop and Ji Chang Wook, won’t be continuing after their initial season. But before you succumb to disappointment, let’s take a closer look to see if your top pick is still in the game or has met an early end.

K-dramas Canceled for Season 2

A Time Called You 

Starring Ahn Hyo Seop, Jeon Yeo Been, and Kang Hoon, directed by Kim Jin Won, and Choi Hyo Bi, this time slip drama, a fan favorite, follows a woman who mysteriously travels back to 1998, encountering a man resembling her deceased love. Sadly, it has been categorised as a limited series on Netflix.

Celebrity 

Starring Park Gyu Young, Kang Min Hyuk, Lee Chung Ah, directed by Kim Cheol Kyu, Kim Yi Young, this show delves into the world of Seo A-ri, a social media influencer, exploring the highs and lows of Instagram fame. Despite its intriguing premise, it won’t be returning for a second season.

The Days 

This Japanese show, starring Koji Yakusho, Yutaka Takenouchi, Fumiyo Kohinata, revolves around the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. Regrettably, it won’t be renewed for the next season.

First Love 

Hikari Mitsushima, Takeru Satoh, and Rikako Yagi lead this Japanese drama, acclaimed as one of the best romantic shows of 2023. The story revolves around childhood dance partners turned teenagers, Sasha and Tanya. Unfortunately, their tale won’t be continuing into a second season.

Glitch 

Starring Jeon Yeo Been, NANA, and directed by Gin Han Sai, and Roh Deok, this show follows a young woman investigating her boyfriend’s disappearance and stumbling upon a wild conspiracy. Netflix has decided not to renew Glitch for another season.

Mask Girl 

Featuring Ko Hyun Jung, Ahn Jae Hong, and Yeom Hye Ran, directed by Kim Yong Hoon, this drama revolves around an office worker who transforms into a masked internet personality at night. However, her story won’t be continuing beyond the first season.

The Sound of Magic

Ji Chang Wook, Choi Sung Eun, and Hwang In Youp star in this K-drama directed by Kim Sung Youn and Kim Min Jeong. The show follows a magician in an abandoned theme park making troubles disappear for a disenchanted teen. Unfortunately, this beloved show won’t be coming up with a new season.
