The Madhya Pradesh Women and Child Welfare Department on Sunday prevented marriages of 16 minors at a mass wedding event at Badodiya Khan village near Indore.

The Madhya Pradesh Women and Child Welfare Department on Sunday prevented marriages of 16 minors at a mass wedding event at Badodiya Khan village near Indore.

Women and Child Welfare Department official Nirmala Rokade told PTI that after organisers of the event were warned about its illegality, the marriages of these eight minor couples did not take place.

As per the law, the minimum age of marriage for men is 21 years, while for women, it is 18 years.
