A woman naxalite was on Friday killed in a fierce gun-battle with security personnel in Maoist-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
"The face-off between naxals and security personnel took place in forests of Neelmadagu village under Bhopalpatnam police station limits (over 400 kms from capital Raipur)," Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Prashant Agrawal told PTI.
After the encounter, body of a woman naxal and a SLR has been recovered from the spot, the SP said.
Her identity was yet to be ascertained as search party has not returned to the camp.
According to the officer, the patrolling party was on a combing operation in Bhopalpatnam region when naxals started firing on them in jungles of Neelmadagu.
Later, jawans launched retaliatory attack following which ultras fled into dense forest.
In the ensuing gunfight that lasted for around two hours, a woman naxal was killed.
According to sources in police department the killed naxal was the commander of national park area committee.
