Williams' Valtteri Bottas keen to stay put
The 23-year-old is hopeful that his Canadian qualifying will convince his owners to keep him with the Grove team.

Williams driver Valtteri Bottas is hopeful that his third-place finish in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix will secure him an extended stay with the Grove team next season. The Finn was a surprise third in Montreal where he handed the changeable conditions well to go under a half a second slower than Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.

Bottas' comments came after deputy team principal Claire Williams stated that she would be happy to continue with the 23-year-old who got behind the driver's seat in place of Bruno Senna for 2013.

"Sure, that sounds good!" Bottas told Finnish broadcaster MTV3. "Let's hope this continues. There's no point thinking about it too much. The best thing I can do is focus on the race and do my best. Things then go in the direction you want them to go."

Williams have changed at least one driver a season, with 2008 and 2009 being the last time they retained the same line-up for more than a year. On Saturday, Bottas finished third on the grid, a full ten places higher than his team-mate Pastor Maldonado.

However, on race day he fell back from third to 14th. "I think Canada was good for me in that I was able to show my skills," said Bottas. "Hopefully it proved that I deserve a place."
