Cooch Behar(WB): Criticising Left Front and Trinamool Congress, Defence Minister and West Bengal PCC president Pranab Mukherjee said while the LF was cheating the people with its claims of success, TC had aligned with 'communal' BJP on Wednesday.
Mukherjee, who addressed two election meetings in Cooch Behar district, which will go to the polls in the last phase on May 8, alleged that the LF claim of success in agriculture and industrialisation was 'baseless'.
"It is nothing but cheating the people." Secessionist movements like the Gorkhal and Kamtapur were organised with the support of the LF, he alleged and added that no party was more anti-secessionist than Congress.
Referring to the failed 'Mahajot' attempts, Mukherjee said his party had been ready to accept Mamata Banerjee's proposal for a grand alliance of Congress and Trinamool Congress on condition that it would sever relations with the communal BJP.
"Congress is against communalism and due to its responsibility in national politics it cannot accept a party as its partner that has relation with a communal party like the BJP," he added.
