BANGALORE: Lakshmidevinagar is one of the ward under the Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike that falls on the outskirt of the city. Over-flowing sewerage channels releasing bad smell, lot of constructional activities, garbage strewn over the empty sites is what one can witness at the ward. The residents of the ward are furious over the regular blockage of their sewage pipes. The area residents allege that their ward is still on the old sewage pipes which should have been replaced with bigger ones to accommodate the increasing load.Speaking to City Express, Lawrence, a daily wage employee who resides in the ward said, “Every week we are forced to shell out ` 100 to clear the blockage of sewerage lines. This has become an extra burn in our pockets. The palike should give heed to our demands and replace the sewerage lines with bigger pipes as the population in the area has increased drastically over the years.”“As the sewage water over-flows, it attracts lot of mosquitoes and there are chances of diseases being spread through it. Children become easy target as they play on streets,” said Patrick Rach, a resident.Other than the sewerage problem the ward has drinking water problem and the angry residents vented their anger on the water board. As the works of bringing Cauvery water from Thippagondanahalli reservoir under Cauvery 4th Phase 2nd Stage is going on, one of the main road enabling connectivity to Peenya Industrial Area is being dug up. This has put the area residents under trouble as lot of dust and other particles create air pollution. When the City Express took up the issue with the area Corporator Thimmaraju, he said, “I accept that the ward has lot of trouble due to the over-flow of sewerage water. Tenders have been floated for laying new sewerage pipes to accommodate the load of increasing population. It may take at least three months for the firm to finish the works.” He further said that he has deputed two persons from the corporation to clear the regular sewerage blockages and alleged that the pipes remain damaged as lot of constructional works are taken up in his ward.Thimmaraju further said that the works of laying water pipes from 12th Main Road, Kempamma Layout till Laggere Circle is going on at full pace. “The works are going on and it may take another 3 months to be done with the work. I have already requested the concerned officers to speed-up the works so that the free-flow of traffic in the area is not affected.”
