Was TN Trust Vote Legal? Madras High Court Demands Video of Assembly Ruckus
The Madras High Court on Wednesday asked DMK to submit a video of the ruckus in the state assembly to back its petition challenging the trust vote won by Chief Minister E Palaniswami.

New Delhi: The Madras High Court on Wednesday asked DMK to submit a video of the ruckus in the state assembly to back its petition challenging the trust vote won by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

The DMK has complained that, since the AIADMK MLAs "were held hostage" by the Sasikala camp and denied a chance to freely express their will, any kind of declaration or resolution signed by them will fail the test of legality.

Advocate Balu told News18 that the court has sought evidence to see whether the MLAs were kept hostage or not. He said the court has also decided to see whether DMK MLAs were ill-treated inside the House.

“We will submit the evidence to court and show what exactly happened inside the assembly and what happened in the resort,” said Balu.

On Saturday, Palaniswami had won the trust vote 122-11 after Speaker Dhanapal evicted protesting DMK MLAs.

DMK has alleged that the floor test was conducted "unconstitutionally" after all the DMK members were evicted from the house by speaker P Dhanapal on charges of disrupting the assembly and insulting the speaker.

Stalin had said that the test was “a mockery of democracy and a severe blow to the Constitution".

Stalin cited a 1988 precedent wherein the Governor declared as void the voting on a Confidence Motion held by the Speaker with only two factions of the ruling party present in the House.

Experts had earlier told News18 that DMK’s strategy to "obstruct Assembly proceedings may take matters to the court."
