HYDERABAD: The TRS and the BJP are likely to announce their candidates in the next two days for Parkal Assembly seat with the efforts of the TJAC in persuading them to file a consensus candidate going nowhere. The TRS election committee unanimously recommended to party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao to field Munuguru Bhikshapati as the party’s candidate who faced defeat in 2009 elections in the hands of the then Congress candidate Konda Surekha. Chandrasekhara Rao would take a final call on the issue. He is also considering the name of Bar Association leader Sahodar Reddy. The TRS is being wary in choosing its candidate for the seat. However, TRS leaders were of the view that whoever gets the ticket, the party should ensure that the official candidate would win the seat. The party is confident of winning by 50,000 majority in the byelections.Meanwhile, BJP state leadership has more or less finalised the name of Dr Vijayachandar Reddy who resigned as professor from Kakatiya University. The BJP is waiting for the TRS to announce its candidate first. The TJAC, however, would like either the TRS or the BJP to contest the bypoll from Parkal, to ensure there is no division of votes. “If both the parties fight the bypoll, the pro-Telangana votes will get divided and can well mar the prospects of TRS and BJP. We don’t want that to happen,” a JAC leader said. Sources, however, said neither TRS nor BJP were in the mood to oblige the JAC. The BJP is “very firm” on jumping into the fray in Parkal since “our chances of victory are bright”, party sources said. Also, the party would not like to let go an opportunity to strengthen its base in the region. However TJAC leaders said they would continue their efforts till the last. They hoped that both the parties would understand the need for a consensus candidate in the byelection. Meanwhile TRS MP Vijayashanthi urged the BJP to rethink its decision on fielding a candidate for Parkal.
