UP: Cold wave claims 13 more; toll rises to 74
Kanpur city with a minimum temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius was the coldest place in the state.

Lucknow: Cold wave conditions and dense fog continued unabated claiming 13 more lives in Uttar Pradesh today even as parts of the state witnessed bright sunshine.

The state-wide death toll owing to the cold now stands at 74.

As many as six people died in Deoria, four in Bareilly, two in Lucknow and one in Ghazipur in the past 24 hours due to the chill, officials said.

Kanpur city with a minimum temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius was the coldest place in the state followed by Varanasi at 4 degrees, five notches below normal, the local MeT office said.

Faizabad and capital city Lucknow saw a steep fall in night temperatures while Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Jhansi, Agra an Bareilly recorded below normal temperatures, it said.

Agra shivered at 4.1 degrees while Lucknow recorded 4.4 degrees, both four notches below normal.
