MYSORE: Governor H R Bhardwaj said that a majority of the universities in the state that are on a mission to impart qualitative higher education lacked sufficient staff. He was speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) at Mysore on Friday.“It is unfortunate that many of the universities have only around 50 per cent staff, and are struggling to provide quality education.Lack of good teachers would affect the quality of education.Education, health and food are the core areas to be focused on, to take on the global challenges and development of the country,” he added.Education has been given prominence from early the 1940’s, as the founding fathers like Gandhiji, Ambedkar, Nehru and others who went abroad to get knowledge, first thought of improving the education sector.Though India is an ancient country and has contributed to the world through Vedic literature, the country is yet to compete with the rest of the world, he observed. He said that there were several commissions that upgraded the education system and created large education network from lower to higher level through programmes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.Bhardwaj regtettd that many under-graduates and postgraduates fail to get employment.“It is high time there is a diversification according to the needs of society and tips must be taken from academicians from abroad to gain more knowledge,” he said.
