Two die of electrocution at chariot festival

BANGALORE: Two people died and seven others injured when the Karumariyamma chariot they were pulling came in contact with a live wire here on Sunday.The chariot festival, which began at around 7.30 am at Rajendranagar in Koramangala,  came in contact with a live wire on an electric pole situated in front of the nearby government primary school.Muniyamma (55) and Pratap (19) died on the spot. The injured have been admitted to St John’s and St Philomena’s Hospital.According to onlookers, most of the people who were pulling the chariot felt the shock as soon as the chariot touched the wire.The devotees immediately abandoned the chariot and shifted the deity to the temple. Tension prevailed in the area for a while.
