Thane: A peon with a Magistrate court, who was found guilty of accepting a bribe of Rs 800 from a litigant, has been sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment.
Thane District court Judge V V Bambarde yesterday found the peon posted with JMFC 8th court - Raju Kakphale - guilty of demanding and accepting bribe from a litigant for providing him with a copy of the court order.
APP Sanjay Londe appearing for the prosecution told the court that it was on February 2, 2008 the peon was trapped by the Thane unit of the ACB accepting the bribe from the complainant litigant.
The Judge held the peon guilty for offence punishable under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and sentenced him to one year RI and slapped him with a fine of Rs 1000.
The court also found him guilty of offences punishable under section 13 (2) of the Act and sentenced him to another six months RI which will run concurrently.
