Telangana's Sangareddy Tackles Drug Issue With SP Announcing Rewards For Tip And Info On Cartel

In Sangareddy district, Telangana, the District SP Rupesh Flexes has announced that people who provide information about drug sellers and consumers will be rewarded by the police department. According to Local 18 Telangana, the police have even put up advertisements regarding this announcement on the highway in the Pothireddypally in Sangareddy district. In Sangareddy district, industrial workers from other states are also consuming drugs. Most of the drugs have been found in this area. Sangareddy District Police has also said that there are engineering colleges in Patancheru constituency. As per the police, the students in these colleges are also taking drugs and harming their health. The authorities notified that people have certain codewords for these drugs, i.e.- one of them being chocolate. They are being packaged in a box and only sold to those who consume drugs. In the past, the drug peddlers who were apprehended had sold the drugs using a similar modus operandi.

To prevent this, the police department has now set up a control number 8712656777 to prevent them. In the Narayankhed constituency, cases are being filed against the drug peddlers for removing the cannabis plants from the fields. The authorities have also notified the farmers to not cultivate the cannabis plants.

According to Telangana Today, the police were also counselling youngsters who are addicted to ganja in the presence of their parents. The authorities are explaining the consequences of their act and the health problems caused by the consumption of the contraband substance. They are also using drug detection kits to nab offenders. A total of 100 kits were sanctioned to the district and at least four kits were given to each police station.

Increase in Drug Cases in Telangana

This year has seen a major increase in drug-related incidents in Telangana. The anti-narcotics agency reported over 1,800 registered drug cases, with 3,792 individuals arrested for drug supply and consumption. Notably, 679 ganja-related cases have been documented since January. The authorities have confiscated a massive 42,000 kg of cannabis, valued at Rs 102.41 crore, which has been subsequently destroyed.
