KOCHI: Even as the results of the elections in colleges under Mahatma Gandhi University were out on Friday, both the major parties claimed to have won a majority. While Kerala Students Union (KSU) declared to have won 14 out of 26 seats, Students Federation of India (SFI)staked claim over 25 out of 29 seats.“Out of the 29 colleges, election took place  only in 26. Of these, the KSU won the majority of the seats in 14 colleges and won 16 college chairman seats,” said Jinto John, president of KSU Ernakulam District Committee.   SFI claims that they made a clean sweep in colleges except in Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam Law College, Sri Sankara  Vidyapeedom, Irapuram, Mar Elias College, Kothamangalam, where they lost two seats each.Recounting on Monday: In Maharaja’s College, the stalemate continued as SFI candidates demanded recounting which will be conducted on Monday. SFI state secretary, P Biju said that SFI had a remarkable outing in this year’s college union elections; while Jinto John hailed the results as the party’s come back to campus politics after decades. Meanwhile, tense moments prevailed in the Maharaja’s College where the SFI demanded a recounting of votes. KSU candidates, however, alleged that results can be manipulated before the recounting takes place on Monday. The District Collector had promised to take the responsibility of the ballots, and ballot boxes were shifted to the Collector’s Camp Office. Both the party activists took out rally after the initial results were declared.
