CHENNAI: Dr Venkateswara Rao, Director, Innova Children Hospital, Hyderabad, has called for use of technology in nursing education.Speaking at the inauguration of a National conference ‘Mapping our ways to future knowledge transfer - Incorporating Innovative Teaching Strategies’ organised by the SRM College of Nursing on Friday, Rao said, “Many of the old methods of teaching have become obsolete. Through technology, latest developments in the field can be made known to the students at the click of the mouse.”Lauding the SRM University’s recent satellite launch, he said, “SRM has reached the skies by sending the satellite. I am sure they will find ways of optimising their technological know-hows and take virtual learning to a new level.”Dr M Ponnavaikko, Vice-Chancellor, SRM University, stressed the importance of using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for teaching and simulation with mannequins as well, to study real life situations, that would benefit the students. He also listed out the qualities that every nursing student should nurture.The meet will deliberate on recognising ways to bring out innovations in the teaching and learning process and the use of advanced technology in nursing education. Students from various nursing schools participated.
