Before getting the better of Scotland, the last time Bangladesh won a match in the Women’s T20 World Cup was on April 3, 2014, in Sylhet. In that match, Bangladesh hammered Ireland by 17 runs in front of home fans.
“A win after 10 years is very emotional. We’ve been waiting for this for a long time,” said Sultana. “No matter how well we play, if we don’t win, it feels meaningless. This victory gives us momentum, and I feel it’s a step towards something bigger.”

The 2024 edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup was scheduled to take place in Bangladesh, but due to the ongoing political situation in the country, the 10-team tournament was moved to the UAE.
“We’ve moved on from the heartbreak of not playing in front of our home crowd. We’re fortunate to be here, healthy, and representing our country.”
After winning the first match, Bangladesh will now face England in the second match on Saturday (October 5). The match against the inaugural edition winners is also scheduled to take place in Sharjah.
