New Delhi: In yet another shocking incident that underlines the lack of security at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the capital, 3 cabbies robbed and killed 39 year old NRI, K T Shameer.
Riyadh based Shameer landed at the domestic airport late on 10th October. He took a taxi from outside the airport but he never reached his hotel.
“Generally sometimes when he gets involved in work he forgets to call, we thought this was one such incident,” says victim’s brother.
A day later, Shameer's body was found by the Gurgaon police on the National highway-8. A case of kidnapping was registered and on Monday the police nabbed Manish Kumar and Monu while the third ally, Anil is still absconding.
According to the police, the cabbies drove Shameer to an isolated spot on the Gurgaon highway, robbed him of his money and ATM cards and shot him with a country made pistol.
“The questioning led us to understand that three of the cab driver regulars were not around since two days,” says police person, Atulya Patnaik.
This is not the first time that taxi drivers in the capital have been arrested for such crimes. An Australian tourist Dawn Emilie Griggs was raped and murdered by cabbies at the airport four years ago. Inspite of such happenings, the IGI airport is devoid of any CCTV cameras in the range of prepaid taxi booths and taxi parking.
With such lapses in the airport security system, cab drivers are bound to find an easy prey at airports.
