The All -Kerala Tank Truck Owners and Workers Co-Ordination Committee has decided to start an indefinite strike from October 5.
All tank trucks, transporting petroleum products of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil Corporation will participate in the strike.
The decision was taken at a meeting held here the other day.The association members alleged that the police and Motor Vehicle Department were deliberately torturing them after the gas tanker tragedy in Chala. They demanded roads to be made fit for LPG tank trucks.
“The roads in the state are narrow and have no sufficient traffic signals or proper dividers. Even after the Chala tragedy, the authorities have failed to repair the roads,” said committee member M Ibrahimkutty.
He also said that incidents such as the one that occurred in the Udayamperoor bottling plant should be avoided in the future by providing proper training to the employees of petroleum companies.
“But Indian Oil Corporation officials tried to put the blame on truck drivers. The petroleum companies should resume the disaster management classes which they used to give earlier,” Ibrahimkutty added.
