Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are facing a whopping 23 per cent shortage of IAS officers.
With so many key decision-making posts lying vacant, governance is likely to be affected in these states. The country has a total authorised strength of 6,154 IAS officers. Of these, 1,407 have been authorised for the four Southern states and Odisha alone. However, these states have only 1,095 of the total authorised strength.
According to figures available with Express, Tamil Nadu has a total authorised strength of 355 IAS officers. Yet, the state has just 286 officers at present. This has resulted in a shortage of 69 civil servants. more: P9
