Hasan Mahmud Misses Easy Run-Out Chance, Hits South Africa's Dane Piedt with Throw: WATCH
After escaping the run-out luckily, Dane Piedt went on to score 32 runs off 85 balls before falling victim to Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud missed the opportunity of an easy run-out in a bizarre fashion on the second day of the ongoing first Test against South Africa in Dhaka. The incident unfolded in the 69th over of the Proteas’ first innings.

Mahmud bowled a low full-toss to Dane Piedt, who attempted a straight drive. The ball deflected off the bowler’s right hand and crashed onto the stumps. Kyle Verreynne, however, was safe at the non-striker’s end. That is when Piedt tried to secure a quick single but realised his mistake midway. The South African immediately took a U-turn.

Mahmud had already picked the ball and threw it towards the batter’s end, sensing the chance of a run-out. He, however, lacked accuracy and ended up hitting Piedt with the ball. Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das was visibly disappointed as he was ready to collect the throw from Mahmud.

After escaping the run-out luckily, Dane Piedt went on to score 32 runs off 85 balls before falling victim to Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Kyle Verreynne, on the other hand, scored a brilliant century that helped South Africa breach the 300-run mark in the first innings. The wicketkeeper-batter hit eight boundaries and two sixes to score 114. Wiaan Mulder also enjoyed a good outing with the bat and chipped in with a 54-run knock. He stitched a 119-run partnership with Verreynne. It was South Africa’s highest-ever seventh-wicket stand against Bangladesh.

The visitors were ultimately bundled out for 308. Bangladesh batted first and managed to score 106 runs. The hosts faced a batting collapse in their second innings as well. After coming in to bowl on the second day, Kagiso Rabada drew the first blood as he dismissed Shadman Islam in the third over. The South African speedster also got the better of Mominul Haque, with Bangladesh reeling at 19/2 at tea.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das returned to the dressing room early on the third day. Mahmudul Hasan Joy added 40 runs to the scoresheet. Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored a fine halfcentury for Bangladesh in the second innings. Jaker Ali also chipped in with a vital knock in the second innings of the fixture.
