New Delhi: In what comes as a significant honour for the south indian film industry, a Tamil feature film has been selected for screening at the international film festival to be held at Cannes from May 16 to May 27.
Veyil (sunshine), produced by renowned director Shankar and directed by G Vasanthabalan, is a story about a man who meets with failure in all his endeavours.
The film would be screened in "Trsles Cinemas du Mond" section on May 19, the third day of the festival.
Shankar, in a statement, claimed that it was the first time that a Tamil film had been selected for screening in the Cannes film festival. He was informed about the screening by the Director of film festivals, Government of India, V B Pyarelal.
The film, which has Bharath and Bhavana in the lead roles, has already seen a successful run in various cinemas in Tamil Nadu for more than 100 days.
