HYDERABAD: The ongoing Sakala Janula Samme has not even spared marriages in Telangana districts. The strike by government and APSRTC employees has led to the postponement of many marriages, putting additional burden on parents of both the brides and grooms. Vanaja Rao, owner of a marriage bureau said many people are postponing marriages due to lack of transportation, bandhs and other disturbances. She added some people are even shifting marriage venues to temples and villages, instead of marriage halls and gardens in Hyderabad.According to estimates, as many as 25,000 marriages were to be held in October and November, out of which 2,500 are NRI marriages. The parents of brides and bridegrooms are in a hurry because there are not no muhurthas after November 18, due to entering of Soonya Masam. According to Naveen Reddy, owner of another marriage bureau, the muhurthas began from October 9 and end on November 18 and after that muhurthas begin only from January 15, 2012. He said around 12,000 marriages have been fixed in the twin cities and over 13,000 marriages in Telangana. P Vasudeva Reddy, a native of Palvoncha mandal in Khammam district, who completed his son’s marriage in Hyderabad on Saturday, said he had to arrange private vehicles for bringing his relatives from the village by investing Rs. 50,000, as there were no RTC buses. Another problem is that newly married women are having to wait to move with their husbands abroad, due to delay in getting marriage registration certificates, as the registration office employees are on strike.
