BANGALORE: The super speciality hospital, located on the Victoria Hospital premises adjacent to the Institute of NephroUrology, which has been constructed under the Prime Minister Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), is expected to be functional by October 2.The new five-storey building, with a bed strength of 200, will comprise six specialties namely urology, neurosurgery, plastic, pediatric surgery, cardiology and surgical gastroenterology.A state-of-the-art diagnostic lab is also being planned under the same roof, making it convenient for patients to get their reports on the same day.Medical Education Minister S A Ramadas said that he would be convening a meeting to discuss all the issues related to the PMSSY block.“We would finalise the date to inaugurate the hospital,” he added.Under the Prime Minister Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, a total of 13 institutions across the country, were shortlisted for upgradation on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, in the first phase and Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI).Dr G T Subhas, who has been appointed as a special officer said that a total of 313 post for paramedical staff were exclusively sanctioned for the hospital and currently the process of recruiting paramedical and teaching staff is going on.Though equipment have been purchased installation is yet to take place.The main specialty of the upcoming building is that each department will have an exclusive ICU, a ward and a dedicated operation theatre.This fully centralised air conditioned building will have a dedicated cath lab, dedicated paramedical staff and specialists.Secretary of Medical Education secretary Gopal Krishna Gowda, who visited the building on Friday, discussed the work in detail with the officers and other staff.If every thing goes as per the plans, then the department aims to add some more specialties like geriatric and medicine to it.Completely sponsored by the Union Government, the work for the super speciality hospital was started in the year 2008.A total of Rs. 65 crore would be spent on the project, while Rs. 35 crore have been spent on construction, Rs. 30 crore would be spent on the hospital’s equipment.
