HYDERABAD: The state is in favour of a threetier Panchayat Raj setup. The government has already sent a proposal to the Centre urging it to give the states the freedom to have the Panchayat Raj setup which is convenient to them.
At present, a fivetier setup sarpanch, MPTC, MPP, ZPTC and ZP chairman is in force in AP, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said on Sunday.Speaking to mediapersons in his chambers in the Assembly, the chief minister said all was well with the state and the elections to local bodies and Panchayat Raj institutions would be held in the beginning of next year. "The elections will have no bearing on the budget session of the Assembly. The polls will be held in accordance with the Election Commission schedule," the chief minister said.

He said the state wanted a threetier setup for the Panchayat Raj administration sarpanch, MPP and ZP chairman. "We have initiated a dialogue in this regard with Union tribal welfare minister V Kishore Chandra Deo who represents Andhra Pradesh in the Central cabinet," Kiran Kumar Reddy said. The chief minister was reluctant to answer the questions on the strength of the Congress ahead of voting on noconfidence motion. "You will know tomorrow what our strength is. There is no erosion in our numbers," he said.
