Colombo: Sri Lanka has released 33 Indian fishermen following the orders of the country's President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The development came as a goodwill gesture after the Sri Lankan President met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May at later's oath taking ceremony.
Talks between India and Sri Lanka on the fishermen issue had ended in deadlock in May and negotiators are scheduled to meet again in June.
Sri Lanka had shot down a request from Tamil Nadu fishermen to allow fishing in Lankan waters for 70 days a year and to allow bottom trawling.
