Meerut: A Samajwadi Party (SP) leader has been accused of abducting a girl from her home in the Vaishali area of Meerut in UP. A senior SP leader, meanwhile, said the accused does not belong to the party anymore.
Sources told IBN7 that a local leader called Prasenjit Gautam came with eight of his goons in three vehicles to the girl's house. The girl was also beaten up when she tried to resist them. Witnesses say the girl's brother was badly thrashed and even shot at when he tried to save his sister. The brother is recovering in a nearby hospital.
When the neighbours heard the commotion, they rushed to the rescue of the family and even managed to nab one of the men with the SP leader. Police later recovered a pistol from the man.
The incident reportedly happened on Jan 13. A case against Gautam was also registered with the police, but no action has been taken so far.
Meanwhile, the state president of the SP, Akhilesh Yadav, has denied that Gautam was a member of the party.
