'Jimmy Anderson is Rarely Treated With Such Disdain': Atherton Lauds Jaiswal's Heroics in 3rd Test at Rajkot
Former England skipper, Michael Atherton lauded Jaiswal's heroics, taking on Jimmy Anderson and smacking him for a hat-trick of sixes in the 3rd Test at Rajkot.

The former England skipper, Michael Atherton was in awe of India’s newest star, Yashasvi Jaiswal who has had a fantastic start to his Test career following his consecutive double-centuries against England in the ongoing five-match series.

Atherton did not know much about Jaiswal previously but was amazed by his performances, especially in the England series, and sees him as a special talent.

“Fantastic young player. Haven’t seen much of him in Test match cricket. England fans didn’t see much of him before the series but now they’ve seen enough to know that he’s a special young talent. Very hungry for runs,” said the former England skipper.

Having made his name on the big stage with big performances in the IPL, the youngster has then gone on to make his debut in the T20I and Test format. After delivering performances consistently, he seems to be in the circuit to be among India’s regular starters as well.

Atherton gave massive praise to the youngster and lauded his abilities which he has showcased so far. “He smacks the ball a long way; a powerfully built lad. He’s a modern T20 player who’s adapting to Test cricket and has the technique to do it,” Atherton added.

The former England skipper has warned Ben Stokes of his abilities and urged the current captain to devise plans for the left-hander to get him dismissed early on. Atherton believes that the series could be lost if Jaiswal is allowed to score his runs.

The youngster is currently the highest-run scorer in the side having racked up back-to-back double-centuries in the second and third Test respectively. His ability to take on the bowlers of the highest class is one aspect that Atherton had noted.

“Jimmy Anderson is rarely treated with such disdain like he was this afternoon when he got taken for those three consecutive sixes,” Atherton said.

Jaiswal had taken on Anderson and smacked the veteran pacer for three consecutive sixes in the second innings. The first was a sweep shot to the stands, the second one over the cover boundary, and the third went straight down the ground.

India will hope to see Jaiswal continue to rack up the big centuries as he has done with the remaining two Tests coming up. The fourth Test will take place at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi where the hosts will look to seal the series and defend their long-standing unbeaten record in Test series’ which dates back to 2012.
