BHUBANESWAR: Residents of Salia Sahi on Thursday besieged the Dream Team Sahara (DTS) office at Nayapalli here with the body of Balakrushna Nayak who had fallen off a City bus two days ago and died subsequently. They demanded adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased. The DTS runs City buses here. According to Ramash Nayak, Balakrushna’s elder brother, the victim fell down as the driver sped off the bus while he was alighting. The family members claimed that Balakrushna was carrying a bag containing ` 1.1 lakh which is untraceable since then. Ramesh said, ‘’The missing bag aggravated the situation as the family did not have enough money for a surgery.’’ While the slum-dwellers demanded ` 20 lakh as compensation, DTS officials denied any negligence on the part of the bus staff and said Balakrushna slipped as he was in a hurry. Nayapalli Police intervened and the matter calmed down after DTS management agreed to pay ` 25,000 as ex gratia. Police said the family never mentioned about the cash bag when they lodged an FIR on Wednesday night.
