Mumbai: Taking the demand for sex education in India to a different level, the government schools in Maharashtra is set to introduce a book for classes I to V which talk about "virginity and sex".

Some excerpts from the book read -- “Who will accept me if I lose my virginity?" she asks when he approaches her for sex; ....he got excited sexually, and he held her hand; ...you should be nude while serving us food.

Published by ‘Bharatiya Vichar Saadhana, Pune’, the book, ‘Baal Nachiket', will be kept in libraries for the students of class I to V, Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil claimed.

“This is a new achievement by Vinod Tawde. Students are ‘pareshaan’ (troubled), teachers are ‘hairaan’ (miffed) and parents agitated,” the Shiv Sena said in its mouthpiece, Saamna.

The stories in the textbook are supposed to be from traditional Hindu texts. “What impact will it have on the young minds?" asked Vikhe Patil.

Education Minister Vinod Tawde said that he will comment on the issue later in the day.

Meanwhile, Patil also alleged irregularities in the purchase of the books for extracurricular reading for school students in Maharashtra by the BJP-led state government.
