SC seeks replies from J&K, Centre over stranded Amarnath pilgrims
The PIL says that all the stranded pilgrims in Jammu region of the state should be given safe passage through the curfew affected area.

New Delhi: A day after Amarnath Yatra was suspended temporarily due to Kishtwar violence, a PIL has been filed in the Supreme court on Monday seeking the safe transit of stranded pilgrims who have gone to Jammu and Kashmir for the Amarnath Yatra.

The PIL has been filed by Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party through Bhim Singh, a senior advocate in the Supreme Court. It says that all the stranded pilgrims in Jammu region of the state should be given safe passage through the curfew affected area.

The PIL was taken up on Monday morning with Singh arguing that the Central and state government had not done anything to ensure the safety of pilgrims stranded in the J&K. The PIL also raises concerns about the Vaishno Devi pilgrims.

The apex court after hearing the PIL permitted the petitioner to serve the copies of the petition to the Central government and state government. Both the governments - state and union, would have to put forward their points on the matter.
