BHUBANESWAR: The City Police have arrested an eight-member gang which had allegedly robbed Rs 10 lakh from a staffer of a private bank near Kuakhai Bridge on April 23. A collection agent of Axis Bank’s Bomikhal Branch was carrying the cash from Aditya Motors, located close to Nakhara Square, when at least six bikers intercepted their car and robbed the cash at gunpoint. Close to ` 8 lakh has also been recovered from the gang members, mostly local youths. Police sources said the gang members belong to Kedarpalli slums of the City. The three bikes, which were used in the crime, have also been seized by the police.Marksman arrested The City Police have arrested the anti-social who had fired on a female call centre employee earlier this month. He was identified as Younis Khan. Khan, a native of Jagatsinghpur’s Biridi, had been paid ` 30,000 to shoot at the girl, police said. Namita Rani Padhi, who worked for a call centre, had been shot in her leg in Mancheswar Industrial Estate near her office. Police had, on April 21, arrested three miscreants in connection with the firing. The three were identified as Jitendra Pradhan, Rajendra Sasmal and Biswanath Pradhan. Biswanath was the one who plotted the shooting by paying others. Three others, involved in the case, are still at large.
