New Delhi: Tamil megastar Rajinikanth on Tuesday heaped lavish praise on social activist Anna Hazare's fast against corruption that enters the eighth day on Tuesday at the capital's Ramlila grounds, and said the country had an able leader in him.
"There can be no doubt that corruption is a dreaded disease that needs to be weeded from the Indian Society. I am very happy that we have a very able and dedicated leader in Anna Hazare to lead us in this fight against corruption," Rajinikanth said in a statement to the Chennai chapter of India Against Corruption, the NGO spearheading the anti-corruption campaign in various cities.
In his message of support to Hazare's cause, Rajinikanth said he "whole-heartedly supports the India Against Corruption Movement in their campaign to get Jan Lokpal bill legislated in Parliament."
"I congratulate all the Indians who have lent their support to this bloodless revolution. This kind of peaceful movement is possible only in India which is the birthplace of Satyagraha. I am very proud to be an Indian."
Hazare had embarked on his fast on August 16 when he was taken to the Tihar Jail and released the same day -- but he refused to move out. He came out of the jail Friday and continued his fast at Ramlila Maidan.
The eighth day of Hazare's fast began with his supporters singing devotional bhajans and patriotic songs.
