ROURKELA: After initial positive signs, monsoon has become erratic in the rain-fed Sundargarh district with uneven distribution and deficient rainfall.  While June recorded deficient rainfall of 60 mm against the normal figure of 237.4 mm, the past three weeks of July recorded 266.48 mm. With one week to go this month it would require additional rainfall of 120 mm to reach the normal mark of 386 mm.However, agriculture sources observe that there is nothing much to worry for the farm sector as the present rainfall is enough to sustain agriculture  operation and subsequent rainfalls are likely to make up for the loss.In the past two successive monsoons agriculture activities during kharif season took a severe beating with erratic and weak monsoon besides pest attacks.Sources said the distribution of rainfall has not been even in different areas which could affect crop yields.  Agriculture officials hope to improve the situation adding the present soil moisture is adequate to sustain the paddy plants.
