BANGALORE: “While delivering speeches addressing a community or group, all say that we are with you. But no one says that you are with us. Such meaningful lines should be uttered by the speakers while addressing any audience,” said Kannada poet and critic Dr Sumatheendra Nadig. He was speaking at the second anniversary of the Karnataka Liberation Forum for the Blind here on Friday. More than a hundred visually-challenged from various parts of the city participated in the programme.“The state government should work together with the Union government and formulate a strong act to safeguard the interests of the visually challenged and differently abled. Not much has been done by the government. The NGOs are playing a major role in protecting the rights of the disabled,” said Venkatesh Machkanur, Director, Directorate for Empowerment of Differently Abled Persons and Senior Citizens.Also speaking on the occasion, critic Prof L S Seshagiri Rao, urged the government to work towards removing the hurdles faced by the visually challenged.On this occasion, ‘Antharakshi’ a monthly magazine for the differently abled was released.
