And, gender minorities are badly affected by lack of mental health counselling. This project has successfully reached out to MTH communities across 17 districts of Karnataka in the last one year,” Rajesh said. Also, the gender minorities from Bangalore are likely to appeal before the HC in the coming weeks demanding the government to set up a short-stay home for transgenders under the age of 18 and who are abandoned by families and, an old age home for the community who are over the age of 45. Akkai Padmashali, programme manager for Pehchan Project, Sangama, Bangalore said, demands will also be placed for the implementation of the promises made to the community in 2010 by the then CM, B S Yeddyurappa.  “The promises included issue of ration cards, voter IDs, pension schemes and other beneficiary schemes,” Akkai said. They also condemned the recent amendment to the Karanataka Police Act, section 36 A, which empowers the commissioner to make orders for making and maintenance of a register of names and addresses of residence of all transgenders residing in a specific area. first published:August 18, 2012, 10:50 ISTlast updated:August 18, 2012, 10:50 IST
