New Delhi: The Hindi film industry has almost stopped taking inspiration from the indigenous literature but Rajshree Ojha's upcoming film 'Chaurahen' is based on the stories written by the celebrated Hindi writer Nirmal Verma. The writer is known for the mystic and ambiguous representation of love involved in different types of relationships.
Rajshree speaks about the film," How many times do we see films based on Indian literature. I have chosen four Nirmal Verma stories that deal with layered characters in a very subtle manner. The film is about you and me, about urges. Chaurahen is exactly what's in your heart."
The basic idea propagated in the film seems to explain the importance of the journey rather than achieving the final destination. Sometimes a small win can boost up your confidence and prepare you for bigger victories.
When asked whether or not the market decides the content of independent films, Ojha said," Who sees the market and it's really difficult to define the term 'market'. This is a different film. I didn't want to make another rom-com so I decided to make Chaurahen."
Soha Ali Khan, who is playing a very pivotal character in the film throws some light on the film," The narrative style of the film is really interesting. There are three inter-woven stories that unfold slowly. The audience will definitely relate to the story."
But, wouldn't working in an independent film hamper Soha's image as a mainstream actor," I don't believe in such type of marketing strategies. I am one of those actors who rebel against being typecast. As you see that there is not much money behind the project so I did the film completely due to its potential. It was one of the first films I did so there was not much expectation either."
The film is probably a different take on the complications involved in relationships these days. Bollywood films with relatively larger budget and more prominent star cast are also trying to explore the complexities of urban relationships but most of the times they refrain from getting into the details due to the pressure created by the distributors and financers, so it will be really interesting to see how far 'Chaurahen' could go to explore the unseen.####
