THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state is heading for loadshedding, according to Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed. He told the Assembly on Friday that water levels in the hydel reservoirs, including Idukki, were low. The KSEB was exploring power purchase opportunities outside the state, but if that does not work out, the KSEB will have to search for other options, he said. The minister was responding to reports that the KSEB may have to go in for loadshedding after the SSLC examinations due to inadequate supply and soaring consumption. “The daily peak demand is around 3300 megawatts (MW). And the deficit is around 600-700 MW. During the past five years, we were able to add only 139 MW to the capacity,’’ he said.To a question by CPM’s Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, the minister said a project to generate power from waste was under the consideration of the state government.
