BANGALORE: Owing to power failure at Torekadanahalli (T K Halli) on Saturday between 6 am and 7.20 am, pumps of all phases of Cauvery water supply tripped. A circuit problem developed at the Y phase feeder of the 5 MVA BWSSB transformer of the first stage also resulted in variation in water supply in south-eastern parts. The areas affected were Jayanagar I, II Blocks, T Block, Byrasandra, Siddapur, Venkata Reddy Nagar, Domlur, Shanthinagar, Neelasandra, Murugeshpalya, Ulsoor and surrounding areas. Regular water supply is likely to resume on Monday. When contacted, BWSSB chief engineer Narayana told Express, “At about 6.5 am on Saturday smoke emanated from the Y phase and the circuit started melting due to overheating. As a precaution, all the circuits were immediately switched off.”“The problem on Saturday was due to line transmission where a high tension wire could not withstand the load,” said engineer-in-chief T Venkatraju.
