How to Play ‘Lemonade Crunchy Ice’

Pair up with another player and sit or stand face-to-face. This clapping game is usually played one-on-one. You could stand face-to-face with a partner or sit with multiple friends in a big circle and play with the person to your right.

Do an “Up Down Clap” to mark time while you chant the lyrics. To do the “Up Down Clap,” raise your left hand while keeping your palm face down. At the same time, lower your right hand with the palm face up. Have your partner do the same. Then, clap your hands against your partner’s by simultaneously bringing down your left hands and bringing up your right hands until both of your hands meet. Then, reverse hands and clap the other way (starting with the right hands up high and the left hands down low). The “Up Down Clap” is used when reciting each line of the “Lemonade Crunchy Ice” lyrics.

Perform a “Triple Clap” between lyrics in the first verse. This one’s easy—just clap your own hands together three times. The “Triple Clap” is done only in the first verse—both players triple clap between each line of the lyrics.

Sing the first verse of the song and alternate “Up Down” and “Triple” claps. The first verse of the song goes: Lemonade / Crunchy ice / Sip it once / Sip it twice. As you sing in a rhythm, do the “Up Down Clap” on each line and the “Triple Clap” in between each line.

Sing the second verse of the song without any “Triple Claps.” The second verse of the song goes: Lemonade / Crunchy ice / Made it once / Made it twice. This verse is sung in a slightly quicker rhythm. So, you can skip the “Triple Clap” entirely. Just do the “Up Down Clap” on each line with no breaks in between.

Sing and perform the actions stated in the final four lyrics of the song. The last part of the game depends on which version of the lyrics you use. The standard variation of the song finishes with “Turn around / Touch the ground / Push your brother out of town / And stomp.” On “turn around,” spin around in a circle. On “touch the ground,” touch the ground. On “push your brother out of town,” make a shoving motion with your hands. On “stomp,” jump! Switch up your actions or gestures if you’re using a variation on the lyrics. We’ve included some of the different lyrics and gestures below, but you can see the full lyrics for each version here. “Kick your boyfriend out of town” = Make a kicking motion. “Kick Dr. Pepper out of town” = Make a kicking motion. “Touch your nose” = Touch your nose. “Make a pose” = Strike any funny or silly pose. “And freeze” = Freeze (and don’t move!). “Freeze like American cheese” = Freeze (and don’t move!).

If your version ends on “freeze,” try not to move afterward. In some variations of the song, the last word in the lyrics is “freeze.” Players are meant to strike a pose and not move from that position. The first player to move is the loser!
